CBT for menopause: NHS advised to offer talking therapy – BBC News

BBC talks today about the importance of offering CBT as a treatment for menopause symptoms.

As a menopause specialist nurse – many of my patients need this service and yet it is not widely available in the NHS. The NICE guidance 2015 has promoted the use of CBT as an effective and evidence based treatment option, and this new draft version has highlighted the importance of this therapy.

In general, talking therapies services do not cater specifically for the needs of menopause, and the services have long wait times for treatment.

Many patients cannot or do not want to take HRT, and many patients need CBT in conjunction with their medical therapies.

This is why I trained to deliver the British Menopause Society Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Course for Menopause Symptoms, to be able to deliver this much needed therapy.
