Your Menopause
What is perimenopause and Menopause?
The perimenopause starts in the 40’s for most women, generally aged 45-51. It can be diagnosed when the first changes are seen in the menstrual cycle, and symptoms start to occur. Periods may start to become closer together, irregular, or further apart.
Menopause is the final menstrual period and can only be diagnosed when the periods have naturally stopped for a year, or because of surgery to remove the ovaries. Treatments for conditions like endometriosis and for cancer may also cause menopause.
Early menopause is defined as occurring between the ages of 40 and 45.
Menopause under the age of 40 requires specialist diagnosis and management, this is defined as Premature Ovarian Insufficiency.
